The Future Perfect has brought together the work of two brilliant contemporary designers in the media room of our Los Angeles home, the Goldwyn House. Anna Karlin and Galerie Solis have been curated into this special presentation, which showcases their work in conversation with one another and with a historical architectural environment that is perfectly suited to the rigorous investigation practiced by each.

Anna Karlin, a maker of “usable sculpture”, works across “different mediums and aesthetics with an approach that is united by the same principles: The beauty found in the tension between the natural and the manmade, the tension between the familiar and the new, and a ritualistic approach to craftsmanship and detail.” Karlin’s work, which generates use out of an extensive examination of highly modernist gestures, posits subtlety and simple contour at the forefront of complex ideas, suggesting the designer’s depth of inquiry into the history of design and the role of functional objects within the contemporary home. 

Galerie Solis, a “modern perspective on legacy building” from Sarah Solis, comprises the Heritage Collection, an 11-piece bespoke furniture line, luxury textiles, and a curation of hand-selected art, vintage and antique estate pieces that are “a natural extension” of Solis’ design practice. Conversing intuitively and thoroughly with its environment, the work of Galerie Solis presents as a masterclass in historical design and contemporary ideas, resulting in an architecture of objects that are timeless in their profound specificity.
