In celebration of Design Miami and its expansive ‘Blue Sky’ theme, The Future Perfect is presenting an unprecedented collection of works that offers an optimistic understanding of contemporary design’s place within an ever-evolving world. Split into two parts, the booth presents a myriad of artists across a vast array of genres and mediums.
One side of the booth centers on the work of New Delhi-based artist Vikram Goyal, who is making his United States debut at Design Miami. Trained as an engineer, Goyal’s work personifies the spirit and skill of artisanal techniques found in historical objects and translates the rich legacy of craft excellence from India into modern, timeless designs that resonate at home and abroad. His examination of history, both in craft and concept, bridges the gap between antiquity and modernity, finding timelessness in the overlap. The sky brought to Earth, like the night meeting the day.
In one of his most ambitious pieces, Goyal has created a striking bronze wall relief, which serves as a conceptual mirror to the other side of the booth and is surrounded by a collection of the artist’s work that builds a world within a world; tables, benches, a mirror, sconces, and chandelier, will consume and recycle light and movement as though the viewer has been allowed to sojourn through an aspect of time and space normally inaccessible to them. The sky brought to Earth is like the night meeting the day.
Creating intricate pieces that dive into India’s rich history of artisanal metalwork, Goyal’s work has been praised throughout India and Europe. An engineer by training, Goyal has spent two decades refining a contemporary design language within the international collectible design market. His work personifies the spirit and skill of artisanal techniques found in historical objects and translates India’s legacy of craft excellence into modern designs. Drawing on the expertise of specialist artisans across India, Goyal designs limited-edition furniture and objects that celebrate material and form in abstract new ways. By refining and re-inventing techniques cultivated in the region for centuries, his work exudes a studied sophistication in Indian craft and conceptual and cultural narratives.
Experience the work of Vikram Goyal, as well as the other side of The Future Perfect’s booth – located at G16 – at Design Miami through December 8.
