Artist Katherine Gray stumbled upon the bowl's unique design while experimenting with iridescent surfaces, inspired by James Turrell's "Perceptual Cell." To recreate a captivating play of pure color and light on a smaller scale, she employed NASA-developed technology, using microscopically thin layers of metallic oxides and vaporized quartz. The sandblasted surface's distinct distribution of deposits causes the glass to exhibit varying colors from different angles, while Gray's forms evoke hints of body parts and skin, blending palpability with mystery.
